Sponsoring Deborah
Dorcas Mujinga wa Banze (Deborah), better known as the “Survivor of Kasala”, was born on July 15, 1986, in Malembankulu in Katanga (DRC). She now lives in the city of Lubumbashi in Katanga where she is a pupil at the technical school “Tusaidiane”, in third secondary, training to become a seamstress.
Deborah is one of the victims of the war being fought in the Democratic Republic of Congo since 1998. Her village was attacked and set on fire during the war, and her entire family perished. Miraculously, she survived the fire, but she suffered severe burns.
Deborah was sent to Spain by the previous government to receive medical care, and upon her return, they also paid for her schooling. Today she would so much like to continue her studies in third secondary, but due to lack of assistance, she is having enormous difficulties completing her technical training.
After meeting Deborah in April, 2008, in Lubumbashi, and being touched by her story, the Georges Malaika Foundation decided to assist Deborah in completing her technical training.
